Share Prices - General Information on Investing in Shares
I believe in United States the stock price is a more prevalent term compared to share price. Nonetheless, I use the words share prices and stock prices interchangeably. I believe the term share price is more common in UK and other Commonwealth Nations. As most of you already know, if you own shares of a company that means you are an owner of the company. The ownership may range from trivial to a large ownership in the company. The owners of the shares are also known as shareholders of the firm.
If you would like to own shares of a firm or trade in the stock market, one of the first things that you have do is open a brokerage account that will enable you to trade shares - buy and sell shares. Most brokerage accounts usually have a minimum amount with which you can open an account, ranging from $500 to $2000. If you would like to just buy shares and hold on to them, you will have less restrictions, but if you would like to trade shares regularly (but not as a day trader), you need at least $2000 in most brokerages. The $2000 will let you have a margin account, which would let you to buy and sell shares immediately, and not have to wait for a few days for your trades to resolve which usually happens when you don't have a margin account.
Once you have your brokerage account, you would be able to trade shares immediately. Most brokerage accounts provide you with detailed information on share prices of companies listed on public exchanges. All you have to do is input the ticker symbol of the corporation, and you will have a variety of information at your disposal. The information could range from the current price the stock is trading, the volume of shares that are being bought, the previous trade, the bid price - the price buyers are willing to buy the shares, the ask price - the price sellers are willing to buy, and other regular information such as previous closing price, and the days' high and low.
Most of the time, if you are trading stocks as a hobby or in addition to a day time job, you won't be sitting in front of a computer tracking the prices of stocks. You are likely at your workplace, or some public area where you won't necessarily have access to a secure computer or network to check stock market share prices. In these cases, it is highly unlikely that you would be able to login to your brokerage account and check the current stock prices of the companies you have in your portfolio. For this, you are better off in finding the required information from many publicly provided share prices history. Ryzone Financial itself provides stock exchange share prices, historical stock quotes, and a lot of relevant information regarding shares of publicly traded companies.
